On this page we describe some selected highlights that are within a short distance of our house! You can find more activities for the whole family on the Bregenzerwald Tourism website!

Our local mountains

The Diedamskopf near Au-Schoppernau is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Bregenzerwald. You go up with the comfortable 8-seater gondola. The valley station can be reached in 15 minutes on foot from our house.

A few minutes' walk from the mountain station is the summit of the 2,090 meter high Diedamskopf. From there the view extends far over the mountains. When the weather is good you can even see as far as Lake Constance. Alpine meadows extend around the summit. Paragliders and hang gliders also find their starting points here. On the other side the mountain has a rocky slope that is impressive to look at. The mountain restaurant with sun terrace is ideal for relaxing. Or you can choose one of the hiking trails.

  • Sunset cruises take place every Thursday from July 13th to September 7th, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • A mountain breakfast is available every Tuesday from July 11th to September 5th, 2023 and every Wednesday from August 2nd to September 6th, 2023 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (first mountain trip at 8 a.m.).

Kanisfluh, visible from afar, is one of the most famous mountains in the Bregenzerwald. It rises between Mellau, Schnepfau and Au.

The 2,044 meter high Kanisfluh is probably so well known because the mountain is easy to remember visually. From almost every higher place in northern Vorarlberg you can see the mighty massif with its steep rock faces. Guests staying in Mellau and Schnepfau enjoy the view of the rocky side of the Kanisfluh. The south side of the Kanisfluh, on the other hand, is gently curved, grassy green and only steeper near the summit. You can enjoy this view from Au and Schoppernau.
The Edelweißhütte, the starting point for numerous hiking opportunities, can be reached in a 20-minute drive. Or you can explore the Kanisfluh starting from Au - reachable in 10 minutes by car or on foot.

The playground in Schoppernau

The new playground, located right next to the Schoppernau outdoor pool, was opened in June 2017 and has since been very well received by both local and guest children. This “Bregenzerwald playground” was planned under expert guidance with great support from the Schoppernau population and great attention to detail. The design was inspired by the Bregenzerwald architecture and the craftsmanship and landscape appearance of the surrounding cultural area.

The new 3400 m2 playground offers a true children's paradise for playing, discovering, experiencing, climbing, jumping, swinging, sliding, balancing or simply romping around. For the little ones there are special attractions: wooden houses with original Bregenzerwald shingle roofs, a large shaded sand playground with an excavator and a “horse-drawn carriage” with a “pony” for riding.
You can reach the playground in 5 minutes on foot!
